Browser cookies are packets of data, specifically text files, stored within a web browser by a web server for later use.
Cookies and the Cleverbridge platform
In the Cleverbridge platform, cookies have two purposes: Cookies provide user session tracking and session protection.
Cleverbridge customers are not required to have cookies enabled to make purchases, but the cookies enhance the shopping experience and are important for revenue tracking.
User Session Tracking
Cookies provide user session tracking as shown below:
- Maintains the cart. Customers can switch between your website and the Cleverbridge checkout process, which uses a cookie to identify the customer An individual or business purchasing your product or service by placing an order through Cleverbridge. The customer is the end user of this product, as they are not allowed to resell the purchased products or services. A customer is unique per client. If a customer purchases products or services from two different clients, there are 2 separate records of said customer.. - Enables the tracking of affiliates. For example, the affiliate An individual or a company that markets a product to potential customers. The Affiliate receives a commission on a specific action (also called event: e.g., sale, lead, click, visit etc.) previously agreed upon with you, the advertiser. Each action is tracked via a unique tracking link from Partnerize. An affiliate is also called a publisher. receives commission after a trial download when the customer comes back after the trial.
- Enables tracking of x-parameters for reporting, even when a customer's shopping session is interrupted.
Session Protection
Cookies provide session protection. If a third party steals a protected web site's URL, the session cannot be read because a cookie is required to access that session. The cookie is protected by the SSL encrypted transmission between Cleverbridge and the customer's browser.
