Offer a Product with Several Languages

The following is a business case example of setting up a product with several languages in the shopping cart.

Example Use Case

Shieldware, Inc. sells products in the European market including Belgium, a country with three official languages:

  • French
  • Dutch
  • German

Therefore, Shieldware offers Soap, its cleaner utility software, in multiple languages which is particularly helpful as it can positively impact their revenue in a country like Belgium. Customers can then choose the language version best suitable to them. In this use case, all language versions have the same price.

To achieve the described use case, use our Selection Text feature available in the Configure section in our web admin tool.

With Selection Text, you can set up different options for a product in the cart from which the customerClosed An individual or business purchasing your product or service by placing an order through Cleverbridge. The customer is the end user of this product, as they are not allowed to resell the purchased products or services. ​ A customer is unique per client. If a customer purchases products or services from two different clients, there are 2 separate records of said customer.​ can choose, such as:

  • Version
  • Language
  • License period
  • Number of licenses
  • Subscription billing intervals

The customer makes a selection and then continues the checkout process for that selection.

Example

In the following cart, customers can select from different language versions of the product. The example shows a customer selecting the French version of the product, which comes with a higher value than the Dutch or German version as the customer only speaks French.

Create Selection Text

Setting up selection text involves three main steps:

Define Name and Position

  1. Open the Configure > Selection Text section in the main menu of our web admin tool.
  2. Click the Add Selection Text button and enter a name for the product variation.
  3. Select a position.

The position determines where the product variation is displayed in the cart. Select from the following options:

  • Product Column — Product variation is displayed below the product, in the Product Name column in the cart when the Use product names option is not selected, or replaces the product in the cart when the Use product names option is selected. For an example, see Use Product Names under Apply Selection Text.
  • Separate Column — Product variation is displayed in a new column in the cart.
  • Hidden — Product variation is not displayed in the cart.

Set Up a Product Characteristic

Select or add a product characteristic for the product variation.

Apply Selection Text

Every product characteristic option in the hierarchy must have one product assigned to it.

Example

After completing all relevant information in the General section, the product variation setup looks as follows:

  • (Optional) Add settings under the Catalog Settings section. To learn more, read through the next section.
  • Click Save & Close.
