On the Products dashboard, you can find the following:

Add Base Product button

A base product is a template that you can use to create an assortment of perpetual or recurring products with similar characteristics.

Add Perpetual Product button

Perpetual products are software or services that customers can purchase An order made by a customer and the records associated with it. for a one-time payment Exchange of money for goods and services in an acceptable amount to the customer where the payment amount has been agreed upon in advance. The customer can only pay with an accepted payment method. Each payment has an individual payment cost..

Add Recurring Product (Plan) button

Recurring products are software or services that customers can subscribe to for a recurring payment.

All Products table

The All Products table provides an overview of all products that have been set up for your account. The following fields are available:

Field	Description
ID	Unique ID of the product.
Product Name	Name of the product. Displays to customers on checkout pages and in emails.
Status	Status of the product. Determines how the product is used in the Cleverbridge platform. Options include: Allow Sale and Initiate Only through Client Website Only Available from Restricted IP Range Only Available in Protected URLs Fully Available Hide Deactivated
Price	Price of the product.
Product Type	Type of product offered for sale. Options include: Product Product Family Bundle Product Template Online Backup Additional Service License Certificate Base Product
Internal ID	Internal ID of the product. Cross-references the purchases of this product with your own internal number.
Internal Name	Internal name of the product. Cross-references the purchases for this product with your own internal product name.
Base Product ID (optional)	ID of the base product from which information is passed down to the product.
Base Product Name (optional)	Name of the base product from which information is passed down to the product.
Created by (optional)	User who created the product.
Date created (optional)	Date and time when the product was created.
Date modified (optional)	Date and time when the last edit occurred.
Last modified by (optional)	User who last edited the product.
Version (optional)	Version of the product. Can be displayed to customers on checkout pages.

Note

You can only edit products that have the product type Product and Base Product.

All Recurring Products (Plans) table

The All Recurring Products (Plans) table provides an overview of all of the recurring products (plans) that have been set up for your account. The following fields are available:

Field	Description
ID	Unique ID of the product.
Product Name	Name of the product. Displays to customers on checkout pages and in emails.
Status	Status of the product. Determines how the product is used in the Cleverbridge platform. Options include: Allow Sale and Initiate Only through Client Website Only Available from Restricted IP Range Only Available in Protected URLs Fully Available Hide Deactivated
Billing Interval Price	Price of the product per billing interval.
Billing Interval (Initial/Recurring)	Number of days or months in the initial billing interval/number of days or months in subsequent billing intervals.
Internal ID	Internal ID of the product. Cross-references the purchases of this product with your own internal number.
Internal Name	Internal name of the product. Cross-references the purchases for this product with your own internal product name.
Base Product ID (optional)	ID of the base product from which information is passed down to the product.
Base Product Name (optional)	Name of the base product from which information is passed down to the product.
Created by (optional)	User who created the product.
Date created (optional)	Date and time when the product was created.
Date modified (optional)	Date and time when the last edit occurred.
Last modified by (optional)	User who last edited the product.
Version (optional)	Version of the product. Can be displayed to customers on checkout pages.

A base product is a template that you can use to create an assortment of perpetual or recurring products with similar characteristics.

To create a new base product, click Add Base Product and complete the information in the following sections:

General

The General section is used to enter product details that will be visible to your customer on the checkout pages, as well as categorical and other internal information about your base products. In this section, you can find the following options and fields:

Visible Information

Product Status

The Product Status option determines how the product is used in the Cleverbridge platform. Options include:

Option	Description
Allow sale and initiate only through client website	Product can be sold with no limitations through a direct link from a web page or an email. However, if a customer who wants to purchase the product contacts Cleverbridge Customer Support, they will ask the customer to order An agreement between a seller and a buyer to exchange goods and/or services for money. An order can: - contain multiple products and quantities; - have multiple financial transactions. A preorder authorization is considered an order. the product through the client's website. Out of PCI compliance reasons, Cleverbridge Customer Support will not send the customer other purchase links, such as protected URLs created by the Link Generator.
Deactivated	Product is not sold or listed online.
Hide. Sell only if product ID is known	Product is hidden from the general public. The customer must have the product ID to access the product. After entering the product ID, the customer can purchase the product at a discounted or special price.
Fully available	Default status. Product is sold and listed online.
Only available from restricted IP range	Use this option in case you do not want customers to purchase the product, but you want individuals within your company to be able to use the product in the cart. To define an IP range by which to restrict this product, contact Client Experience.
Only available in protected URLs	Product is available only with a protected URL (created through Link Generator) that is shared with specific customers. You can also use this option in case you don't want customers to purchase the product, but you want individuals within your company to be able to use the product in the cart.

Product Name

The Product Name displays to customers in the checkout process. This field doesn’t support HTML.

Note

You must include an English product name, even if your company uses another default language and only sells the product in this language. Failure to do so will result in an Input Validation message when you try to save the product.

Product Subtitle

You can use the Product Subtitle option to provide a short product description that provides more detailed information about the essential features of the product. This description displays as an additional line below the product in the shopping cart, review page The review page contains summary information about the purchase a customer is about to make., confirmation page The confirmation page is displayed after a customer makes a purchase. The confirmation page contains the order confirmation and delivery information., email messages, and so on. This field doesn’t support HTML.

Essential Features Description

Due to legal requirements for Cleverbridge as an online reseller, an essential features description must be displayed to customers immediately before the customer makes the purchase. Customers must be given a short, clear, and detailed description of the product in order for them to make an informed final purchase decision.

This means the customer must be able to generally understand how the product works. If the product name is already descriptive, no further action is required. If, however, the functionality of the product is unclear from the product name itself, use the Product Subtitle field for the essential features description.

Internal Information

Internal Product Name

The internal product name cross-references the purchases for this product with your own internal product name, which you can also use to easily organize your product information within the Cleverbridge platform.

Important

If you enter an internal product name, this name is used throughout the Cleverbridge platform instead of the main product name. In the checkout process, however, customers see the main product name and not the internal product name.

Internal Category

The internal category is an internal product category for the purpose of sorting products by a specific type or class.

Internal ID

The internal ID cross-references the purchases for this product with your own internal number. This ID can include alphanumeric characters.

If you would like to use your internal ID in the checkout process, you can submit the internal ID as a parameter with the number prefixed by the capital letter I.

Example

A Cleverbridge product ID in an order URL is formatted as &cart=42149, but an internal ID is formatted as &cart=I543.

Tip

If you are offering a product selection in the checkout process, you can submit the internal ID to trigger the pre-selection of a particular option. For example, imagine that you are offering the following subscription options for a product: 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years. You can submit your internal ID for the 1-year subscription product so that it is pre-selected for the customer. To trigger a pre-selection using the internal ID for a specific option in a selection, use the following parameter &cart=S<selection ID>:I<internal ID> (e.g. &cart=S42149:I543).

Attributes

The Attributes section is used to enter information that will be used to market your product in the Cleverbridge platform, as well as restrict the quantity of products that your customers can order. In this section, you can find the following options and fields:

Version

If applicable, enter the version of the product. This can be displayed in the checkout process, depending on your configuration template.

Min. Order Quantity

The minimum order quantity is the minimum quantity that can be purchased for this product in an order.

Max. Order Quantity

The maximum order quantity is the maximum quantity that can be purchased for this product in an order.

Descriptions for Marketing Purposes

Short Description

Short description that displays when this product is used in a recommendation and/or Cleverbridge-hosted catalog. Where exactly this text is displayed depends on the template you use.

Long Description

Description that displays when this product is used in a recommendation and/or Cleverbridge-hosted catalog. Where exactly this text is displayed depends on the template you use.

System Requirements

Description of system requirements that displays when this product is used in a recommendation and/or Cleverbridge-hosted catalog. Where exactly this text is displayed depends on the template you use.

Volume Pricing Note

The volume pricing note displays in the Volume discount pop-up window in the cart. Use this option to provide contact information or any additional information that further explains your volume pricing.

Example

In the pop-up window below, the price scale note displays the volume pricing information at the bottom.

Shopping Cart

Product Information in Cart (as Pop-Up)

To add plain text or HTML that appears within a pop-up in the cart, do the following:

1. If you already have the product information formatted, then copy and paste the text into the Product Information in Cart (as Pop-Up) text editor field.

   or

   Enter plain text or HTML directly into the text editor field.

2. To add a reference to an image, use the following HTML, and include your client account ID and the image name: <img src=mycontent/client account ID/image name>.

   Note

   If you'd like to add a reference to an image, the image must first be uploaded to Web Files in the Commerce Assistant. For more information, see Web Files ✱.

Example

The following is an example of how the pop-up information in the cart could be formatted:

Delivery Text (HTML)

The Delivery Text (HTML) displays information about the product delivery method, such as download, email, etc. in the delivery section of the cart. Enter HTML in this field.

Product Selection

Select the product selection that will be shown to the customer

The Select the product selection that will be shown to the customer option determines if the product displays in the cart by default with the selected product selection. Use product selections so that customers can choose between different options for a product in the cart. See Show Product Suggestions.

Delivery

The Delivery section is used to designate how your product will be delivered. In this section, the following options and field appear:

Delivery Option

Delivery Type

In the Delivery Type drop-down list, select how to deliver the product. For certain delivery types, more setup options display.

Cleverbridge delivers key

Cleverbridge delivers the license key for the software to the customer.

The following options are available:

Option	Description
Web key generator	Select a web key generator.
Key list	Select a key list.
Key display type	Used for key generation, controls how the key and template are shown to the customer. Select from the following options: Auto – Type is determined automatically. Binary – Key that consists of binary data and that is displayed as a download link to a file. HTML – Key is displayed according to HTML formatting. Text – Key displayed as plain text.
Execute once per purchased quantity	Select to generate only one key per cart item, regardless of the quantity of the item purchased.
Use key template	Select to use the key template text that was set up in the Key Template field.

Note

If a key generation or key list error occurs, the following happens:

• If you have set up this notification type, you receive an ErrorNotification.
• An error log entry is created.
• The Cleverbridge platform makes up to five attempts to generate or obtain the key (after 1-2-4-8-16 hours). After each unsuccessful attempt, an ErrorNotification is sent and an error log entry created.
• If the fifth attempt to generate or obtain the key fails, our Customer Support will investigate the error (unless Client handles errors is activated).

Cleverbridge delivers full version by download

Cleverbridge delivers the full version of the software to the customer by download.

The following options are available:

Option	Description
Download file	Select a file that customers download through a link. To upload a new file, click the button and select a file on your computer. The new file displays in the drop-down list for selection.
Link validity in days	Select the number of days for which the download link is valid.
Description	Enter descriptive information that displays with the download link on the confirmation page and confirmation email.
Only show download when customer orders in this language	Select the checkbox to restrict the download to a specific language in which the customer orders.
Language	Select the language for which to restrict the download.

Client delivers

You deliver the full version of the product to the customer by download.

Client delivers license key

You deliver the license key to the customer.

Key Template

The Key Template option inserts custom license key information, such as customer name, product name, license key number, and so on, for the customer on the confirmation page. If you don't enter any custom text in this field, default key template text displays on the confirmation page as follows:

Tip

If you don't want the default key template text to display on the confirmation page, and you don't want to enter custom text, you can enter only the Key placeholder in this field. In this case, if you use a key list, only the license key itself displays, and if you use a key generator, neither the default text nor a license key displays.

The following dynamic placeholders are available to insert customer information:

Email Key Template

The Email Key Template option is used to define a key template only when there should be a version of the key template for the email confirmation that differs from the key template for the confirmation page.

In cases where the key template should be the same for both the confirmation page and the email confirmation, then leave this field blank. The key template from the Key template field will be used for both.

Additional Delivery Note

The Additional Delivery Note option inserts additional delivery information for the customer on the confirmation page. The following dynamic placeholders are available to insert customer information:

Information on Extra Page

The Information on Extra Page option is used when the installation instructions or other product information are too long to fit on the confirmation page. This creates a button on the confirmation page that the customer clicks to open the instructions in a separate window.

Perpetual products are software or services that customers can purchase for a one-time payment.

To add a new perpetual product, click Add Perpetual Product. After doing so, submit information about your product in the following sections:

General

The General section is used to enter product details that will be visible to your customer on the checkout pages, as well as categorical and other internal information about your products. In this section, you can find the following options and fields:

Visible Information

Select base product (optional)

You can use the Select base product (optional) drop-down to select a base product on which you can base other products. You must have a base product set up already for it to appear in this drop-down list.

You can use the Select a category section to select the characteristics of the product. cleverbridge, as the reseller of the product, uses this information in order to gain a more thorough understanding of the types of products Cleverbridge clients sell.

Pricing

The Pricing section is used to enter base pricing information for your product. In this section, you can find the following options and fields:

Base Price

Volume Pricing Method

Value Tip

The Volume Pricing feature can bring value to your business by enabling you to:

• Increase your AOV Average Order Value, AOV in short, consists of the average value of all items within any given order. AOV is calculated as the net revenue divided by the number of orders paid and not reimbursed.
• Entice customers to purchase products in bulk

Volume pricing is used to set different prices based on the quantity of the product purchased. Customers can get increasingly higher discounts depending on the quantity of products they buy.

There are three volume pricing models:

All-units discount

In this model, the price of each unit is equal to the unit price for the lowest volume tier reached. The price per unit depends on the number of units the customer chooses to buy.

Example

In the example below, if the customer chooses two units, the price per unit is $80. If the customer chooses eight units, the price per unit is $70.

This graphic demonstrates what the per-unit cost is when the customer selects a higher volume:

All-units Volume Discount – Per Unit Price

As illustrated in the graphic, the price per unit depends on the number of units the customer chooses to buy. If the customer selects two, each unit costs $80. If the customer selects eight, each unit costs $70. At first glance, the pricing model seems logical. The more the customer buys, the cheaper the per-unit price becomes. However, there are a few peculiarities that become apparent when looking at the total cost compared to the number of units:

All-units Volume Pricing – Total Price by Volume

As illustrated above, the total cost drops between buying nine and 10 units, as well as between 19 and 20. You may decide that enticing the customer to buy 10 instead of nine is exactly the behavior that is desired, but it actually results in less money being made. One solution to this problem is to narrow the discount gap between units. By setting up a smaller difference between the per-unit price levels, this step down will become smaller and can even reverse. Therefore, it is possible to have no drop at a higher number of units.

Advantages of All-units Pricing:

• The all-units model is easy for customers to understand.
• Assuming a price is set in the displayed currency, it is always possible to show customers a marketing-friendly per-unit price.

Disadvantages of All-units Pricing:

• The per-unit price is lower than the per-unit price when offering an incremental discount (see incremental model), hence the total price is also lower. Therefore, it is possible to make less money by using this model.

Incremental discount

In this model, a discount is applied only to units above a specific price tier. There are no incremental drops in total price as more units are selected.

Example

In the example below, if the customer chooses two units, the first unit costs $100 and the second unit costs $80. This results in a total cost of $180 for two units.

Similarly, if the customer chooses five units, the first unit costs $100, three units cost $80, and one unit costs $70, for a total cost of $410.

The following graphic shows the price per unit for each total up to 25 units:

Incremental Volume Pricing - Price Per Unit

As illustrated above, if the customer choses one unit, the cost is merely the price tier for one unit, or $100. However, if the customer selects two units, the first unit costs $100 while the second unit costs $80. This results in a total cost of $180 for two units, or $90 per unit. Similarly, if a customer selects five units, this is one unit at $100, three units at $80 and one unit at $70, for a total of $410 and a per-unit cost of $82.

As demonstrated below, the incremental volume pricing model, unlike the all-units volume pricing model, does not experience any step function drops in total price as more units are selected.

Incremental Volume Pricing – Total Price

This model results in a nice smooth graph of ever-increasing values, which means no tricky step-down points. However, the explanation of what the price is for each unit is not as simple as with the all-units discount.

Advantages of Incremental Volume Pricing:

• There are no step-down points. Therefore, it is not possible to run into a situation where you are selling more, but actually taking in less revenue.

Disadvantages of Incremental Volume Pricing:

• The pricing logic is more difficult for customers to understand than with the all-units model.
• The per-unit price displayed to customers will often not be a marketing-friendly price.

Top-down discount (packages)

In this model, customers buy packages of units at a fixed price. Single units within a tier cannot be purchased.

Example

In the example below, the customer must choose between packages of two, five, 10, and 20 units.

The difficult part of this model is when a customer wants a quantity that does not match one of the pre-defined packages. In this case, the unit price is based on the most favorable package combination. For example, if a customer wants 15 units, a package of 10 for $500 and a package of five for $350 results in a total cost of $850. As can be seen in the graphic below, the package pricing combination results in a non-standard pricing structure per unit.

If you examine the above graphic closely, it becomes apparent that the best per-unit prices are at the fixed-package levels. When the total price is plotted against the quantity purchased, the chart looks similar to the all-units chart:

Once again, there is a step-function down at the fixed-package amounts. One impact of this fact is that customers may increase or decrease their purchases to reach specific packages.

Advantages:

• Like all of the volume pricing models, package pricing entices customers to buy larger bulk to receive a better discount.

Disadvantages:

• It can be difficult to explain to customers.
• This model may result in customers decreasing unit purchases in order to fit a specific package.

Which of these models should be used? One way to select a model is to examine the average quantity per order. At a smaller order quantity, the unit price for all models is pretty similar, but as the unit quantities grow, the incremental model maintains higher unit prices. For every price break, the difference in price between the models grows larger.

It is also important to consider the limits of the existing shopping cart display if you are thinking about using the more complicated volume pricing models (incremental or package pricing). It is very important for a customer to easily understand the discounting method being offered. If the cart display cannot clearly break down the discounting thresholds and price points, customers will be less likely to purchase multi-quantity orders.

Price Type for Taxation

In the Price Type for Taxation drop-down list, select from the options below.

Note

The following settings only pertain to taxable transactions. For customers outside countries with taxation obligations, the Price type for taxation setting is irrelevant. Their prices will always be calculated based on the defined price, regardless of this additional setting.

Gross price	To provide a better shopping experience for your customers in countries with taxation obligations, you can configure every cart to always display a single tax-inclusive price to shoppers. However, with this strategy, if German customers (19% VAT) pay the same gross price as Danish customers (25% VAT), the VAT rates will make a difference in the revenue you generate.

This approach lacks a “marketing-friendly” price display, but it preserves a consistent revenue stream. This means you can choose to generate the exact same revenue on every single transaction from EU consumers. With this approach, different consumers from different countries will pay different gross prices in your shopping cart. It is important to note that you will not know the exact end-price the customer will pay, due to the distinct tax rates.

Important

For US customers, the Price type for taxation setting is irrelevant. The purchase price is always considered the net purchase price, based on which the state sales tax is calculated. Each county, city, and special district can add their sales tax on top of the state tax rate. For more information on the US tax rates, see Tax Rates for Digital Products.

In the following example, US Customer 1 in Louisiana and US Customer 2 in Illinois pay different sales tax due to the different state, local, and city tax rates and regulations in the United States. Being a non-profit organization, the third US Customer in Illinois does not pay sales tax. Nonetheless, the net price remains the same for all three customers.

Select to enable the product for a dynamic product price. Dynamic products are created with parameters that are added to the URL. For more information, see Dynamic Products.

Before a dynamic product price can be applied to a product, this functionality must be activated for your account and a seed must be defined in the Additional Details section of Account Setup in the Commerce Assistant. See Account Setup ✱.

Cleverbridge delivers key

Cleverbridge delivers the license key for the software to the customer.

The following options are available:

Key display type	Used for key generation, controls how the key and template are shown to the customer. Select from the following options: Auto – Type is determined automatically. Execute once per purchased quantity	Select to generate only one key per cart item, regardless of the quantity of the item purchased.
Use key template	Select to use the key template text that was set up in the Key Template field.

Note

If a key generation or key list error occurs, the following happens:

• If you have set up this notification type, you receive an ErrorNotification.
• An error log entry is created.
• The Cleverbridge platform makes up to five attempts to generate or obtain the key (after 1-2-4-8-16 hours). After each unsuccessful attempt, an ErrorNotification is sent and an error log entry created.
• If the fifth attempt to generate or obtain the key fails, our Customer Support will investigate the error (unless Client handles errors is activated).

Cleverbridge delivers full version by download

Cleverbridge delivers the full version of the software to the customer by download.

The following options are available:

Download file	Select a file that customers download through a link. To upload a new file, click the button and select a file on your computer. The new file displays in the drop-down list for selection.
Link validity in days	Select the number of days for which the download link is valid.
Description	Enter descriptive information that displays with the download link on the confirmation page and confirmation email.
Only show download when customer orders in this language	Select the checkbox to restrict the download to a specific language in which the customer orders.
Language	Select the language for which to restrict the download.

Client delivers

You deliver the full version of the product to the customer by download.

Client delivers license key

You deliver the license key to the customer.

Key Template

The Key Template option inserts custom license key information, such as customer name, product name, license key number, and so on, for the customer on the confirmation page. If you don't enter any custom text in this field, default key template text displays on the confirmation page as follows:

If you don't want the default key template text to display on the confirmation page, and you don't want to enter custom text, you can enter only the Key placeholder in this field. In this case, if you use a key list, only the license key itself displays, and if you use a key generator, neither the default text nor a license key displays.

The Email Key Template option is used to define a key template only when there should be a version of the key template for the email confirmation that differs from the key template for the confirmation page.

In cases where the key template should be the same for both the confirmation page and the email confirmation, then leave this field blank. The key template from the Key template field will be used for both.

Additional Delivery Note

The Additional Delivery Note option inserts additional delivery information for the customer on the confirmation page. The following dynamic placeholders are available to insert customer information:

Information on Extra Page

The Information on Extra Page option is used when the installation instructions or other product information are too long to fit on the confirmation page. This creates a button on the confirmation page that the customer clicks to open the instructions in a separate window.

Recurring products are software or services that customers can subscribe to for a recurring payment.

To add a new recurring product, click Add Recurring Product (Plan) and complete the information in the following sections:

General

The General section is used to enter subscription plan details that will be visible to your customer on the checkout pages, as well as categorical and other internal information about your plans. In this section, you can find the following options and fields:

Visible Information

Select base product (optional)

You can use the Select base product (optional) drop-down to select a base product on which you can base other products. You must have a base product set up already for it to appear in this drop-down list.

Product Status

The Product Status option determines how the product is used in the Cleverbridge platform. Options include:

Option	Description
Allow sale and initiate only through client website	Product can be sold with no limitations through a direct link from a web page or an email. However, if a customer who wants to purchase the product contacts Cleverbridge Customer Support, they will ask the customer to order the product through the client's website. Out of PCI compliance reasons, Cleverbridge Customer Support will not send the customer other purchase links, such as protected URLs created by the Link Generator.
Deactivated	Product is not sold or listed online.
Hide. Sell only if product ID is known	Product is hidden from the general public. The customer must have the product ID to access the product. After entering the product ID, the customer can purchase the product at a discounted or special price.
Fully available	Default status. Product is sold and listed online.
Only available from restricted IP range	Use this option in case you do not want customers to purchase the product, but you want individuals within your company to be able to use the product in the cart. To define an IP range by which to restrict this product, contact Client Experience.
Only available in protected URLs	Product is available only with a protected URL (created through Link Generator) that is shared with specific customers. You can also use this option in case you don't want customers to purchase the product, but you want individuals within your company to be able to use the product in the cart.

Product Name

The Product Name displays to customers in the checkout process. This field doesn’t support HTML.

Note

You must include an English product name, even if your company uses another default language and only sells the product in this language. Failure to do so will result in an Input Validation message when you try to save the product.

Product Subtitle

You can use the Product Subtitle option to provide a short product description that provides more detailed information about the essential features of the product. This description displays as an additional line below the product in the shopping cart, review page, confirmation page, email messages, and so on. This field doesn’t support HTML.

Essential Features Description

Due to legal requirements for Cleverbridge as an online reseller, an essential features description must be displayed to customers immediately before the customer makes the purchase. Customers must be given a short, clear, and detailed description of the product in order for them to make an informed final purchase decision.

This means the customer must be able to generally understand how the product works. If the product name is already descriptive, no further action is required. If, however, the functionality of the product is unclear from the product name itself, use the Product Subtitle field for the essential features description.

Category

Select a category

You can use the Select a category section to select the characteristics of the product. cleverbridge, as the reseller of the product, uses this information in order to gain a more thorough understanding of the types of products Cleverbridge clients sell.

Internal Information

Internal Product Name

The internal product name cross-references the purchases for this product with your own internal product name, which you can also use to easily organize your product information within the Cleverbridge platform.

Important

If you enter an internal product name, this name is used throughout the Cleverbridge platform instead of the main product name. In the checkout process, however, customers see the main product name and not the internal product name.

Internal Category

The internal category is an internal product category for the purpose of sorting products by a specific type or class.

Internal ID

The internal ID cross-references the purchases for this product with your own internal number. This ID can include alphanumeric characters.

If you would like to use your internal ID in the checkout process, you can submit the internal ID as a parameter with the number prefixed by the capital letter I.

Example

A Cleverbridge product ID in an order URL is formatted as &cart=42149, but an internal ID is formatted as &cart=I543.

Tip

If you are offering a product selection in the checkout process, you can submit the internal ID to trigger the pre-selection of a particular option. For example, imagine that you are offering the following subscription options for a product: 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years. You can submit your internal ID for the 1-year subscription product so that it is pre-selected for the customer. To trigger a pre-selection using the internal ID for a specific option in a selection, use the following parameter &cart=S<selection ID>:I<internal ID> (e.g. &cart=S42149:I543).

Attributes

The Attributes section is used to enter information that will be used to market your product in the Cleverbridge platform, as well as restrict the quantity of products that your customers can order. In this section, you can find the following options and fields:

Version

If applicable, enter the version of the product. This can be displayed in the checkout process, depending on your configuration template.

Min. Order Quantity

The minimum order quantity is the minimum quantity that can be purchased for this product in an order.

Max. Order Quantity

The maximum order quantity is the maximum quantity that can be purchased for this product in an order.

Descriptions for Marketing Purposes

Short Description

Short description that displays when this product is used in a recommendation and/or Cleverbridge-hosted catalog. Where exactly this text is displayed depends on the template you use.

Long Description

Description that displays when this product is used in a recommendation and/or Cleverbridge-hosted catalog. Where exactly this text is displayed depends on the template you use.

System Requirements

Description of system requirements that displays when this product is used in a recommendation and/or Cleverbridge-hosted catalog. Where exactly this text is displayed depends on the template you use.

Volume Pricing Note

The volume pricing note displays in the Volume discount pop-up window in the cart. Use this option to provide contact information or any additional information that further explains your volume pricing.

2. To add a reference to an image, use the following HTML, and include your client account ID and the image name: <img src=mycontent/client account ID/image name>.

The Select the product selection that will be shown to the customer option determines if the product displays in the cart by default with the selected product selection. Use product selections so that customers can choose between different options for a product in the cart. See Show Product Suggestions.

The Volume Pricing feature can bring value to your business by enabling you to:

Volume pricing is used to set different prices based on the quantity of the product purchased. Customers can get increasingly higher discounts depending on the quantity of products they buy.

There are three volume pricing models:

All-units discount

In this model, the price of each unit is equal to the unit price for the lowest volume tier reached. The price per unit depends on the number of units the customer chooses to buy.

Example

In the example below, if the customer chooses two units, the price per unit is $80. If the customer chooses eight units, the price per unit is $70.

As illustrated in the graphic, the price per unit depends on the number of units the customer chooses to buy. If the customer selects two, each unit costs $80. If the customer selects eight, each unit costs $70. At first glance, the pricing model seems logical. The more the customer buys, the cheaper the per-unit price becomes. However, there are a few peculiarities that become apparent when looking at the total cost compared to the number of units:

As illustrated above, the total cost drops between buying nine and 10 units, as well as between 19 and 20. You may decide that enticing the customer to buy 10 instead of nine is exactly the behavior that is desired, but it actually results in less money being made. One solution to this problem is to narrow the discount gap between units. By setting up a smaller difference between the per-unit price levels, this step down will become smaller and can even reverse. Therefore, it is possible to have no drop at a higher number of units.

Advantages of All-units Pricing:

• The all-units model is easy for customers to understand.
• Assuming a price is set in the displayed currency, it is always possible to show customers a marketing-friendly per-unit price.

Disadvantages of All-units Pricing:

• The per-unit price is lower than the per-unit price when offering an incremental discount (see incremental model), hence the total price is also lower. Therefore, it is possible to make less money by using this model.

Incremental discount

In this model, a discount is applied only to units above a specific price tier. There are no incremental drops in total price as more units are selected.

Example

In the example below, if the customer chooses two units, the first unit costs $100 and the second unit costs $80. This results in a total cost of $180 for two units.

Similarly, if the customer chooses five units, the first unit costs $100, three units cost $80, and one unit costs $70, for a total cost of $410.

As illustrated above, if the customer choses one unit, the cost is merely the price tier for one unit, or $100. However, if the customer selects two units, the first unit costs $100 while the second unit costs $80. This results in a total cost of $180 for two units, or $90 per unit. Similarly, if a customer selects five units, this is one unit at $100, three units at $80 and one unit at $70, for a total of $410 and a per-unit cost of $82.

As demonstrated below, the incremental volume pricing model, unlike the all-units volume pricing model, does not experience any step function drops in total price as more units are selected.

This model results in a nice smooth graph of ever-increasing values, which means no tricky step-down points. However, the explanation of what the price is for each unit is not as simple as with the all-units discount.

Advantages of Incremental Volume Pricing:

• There are no step-down points. Therefore, it is not possible to run into a situation where you are selling more, but actually taking in less revenue.

Disadvantages of Incremental Volume Pricing:

• The pricing logic is more difficult for customers to understand than with the all-units model.
• The per-unit price displayed to customers will often not be a marketing-friendly price.

Top-down discount (packages)

In this model, customers buy packages of units at a fixed price. Single units within a tier cannot be purchased.

Example

In the example below, the customer must choose between packages of two, five, 10, and 20 units.

Sync next billing date with last payment

Syncs the billing date with the date the last payment was received. In the event of late payments, this option automatically recalculates the next billing event date according to the last date a payment was received from the customer.

Billing Interval

Billing Interval

The Billing Interval section includes the following options:

Option	Description
Start with free trial period/Start with paid billing interval	Select whether the first subscription interval should be a free trial or a paid interval. If you select Start with free trial period, the price for Billing Interval 0 will automatically be set to 0.
Length of Initial Billing Interval	Define how much time should pass between the sign up and the first recurring billing event. This can be set in months or days. After the first billing event, the amount of time set for Length of Recurring Billing Interval is used for future billing events.
Length of Recurring Billing Interval	Define how much time there should be between recurring billing events. This interval can be set in days or months. Typically, 1, 3, or 12 months are used for monthly, quarterly, or annual billing intervals.

Example

You set the Length of Initial Billing Interval for 12 months. You set the Length of Recurring Billing Interval for 1 month. This means that after the initial payment, the next billing event is one year later. After that billing event, all future billing events are billed monthly.

Billing Schedule

In the Billing Schedule section, you set up prices for each of the intervals that appear. To add pricing for additional intervals, click the Add price per billing interval button and complete the following:

If you have pricing for Billing Interval 0 and Billing Interval 1, and you specify a billing interval number that does not immediately follow Billing Interval 1, for example - Billing Interval 5, then the pricing for Billing Interval 1 will automatically be applied to Billing Interval 2 - Billing Interval 4.

2. Select a base currency

The base currency is the default currency in which the product is priced. If you do not define specific prices for other currencies, then the prices for those currencies will be converted from the base currency based on the daily floating exchange rate.

In the price grid, the base currency is located in the second column and is followed by the word (Base). To change the base currency for this product, click the column header for the base currency and select a different currency from the drop-down list.

Note

By default, the default base currency as set up in the Commerce Assistant under Account Setup > Currencies is displayed. For more information, see Account Setup ✱.

3. Select other currencies (optional)

Other currencies are displayed to the right of the base currency. To add more currencies for this product:

1. Click Manage currencies. The list of currencies displays.
2. Select a currency from the list. The currency is added to the price grid.

4. Enter product pricing

1. In the first row of the price grid, enter a price in the base currency column. For the other currencies, prices in gray text display. These are prices based on the daily currency exchange rate.
2. To enter prices for the other currencies, click in that currency's column and enter a price.

Warning

The prices that display in gray text for the other currencies after you enter a base price will not be automatically saved. You must enter a price and save the product in order for specific prices in other currencies to take effect. Otherwise, the prices will float based on the daily exchange rate.

Example

In the price grid below, the base currency is US Dollar and the base price is $30. Fixed prices have been entered for the Euro, British Pound, and Japanese Yen. These prices will always remain fixed and won't change with the daily exchange rate.

A fixed price has not been entered for the Hong Kong Dollar. This price will change daily based on the floating daily exchange rate.

Delivery

Note

The options and fields that appear in this section vary depending on the Delivery Type that you select.

The Delivery section is used to designate how your product will be delivered. In this section, the following options and field appear:

In the Delivery Type drop-down list, select how to deliver the product. For certain delivery types, more setup options display.

Cleverbridge delivers key

Cleverbridge delivers the license key for the software to the customer.

The following options are available:

Option	Description
Web key generator	Select a web key generator.
Key list	Select a key list.
Key display type	Used for key generation, controls how the key and template are shown to the customer. Select from the following options: Auto – Type is determined automatically. Binary – Key that consists of binary data and that is displayed as a download link to a file. HTML – Key is displayed according to HTML formatting. Text – Key displayed as plain text.
Execute once per purchased quantity	Select to generate only one key per cart item, regardless of the quantity of the item purchased.
Use key template	Select to use the key template text that was set up in the Key Template field.

Note

If a key generation or key list error occurs, the following happens:

• If you have set up this notification type, you receive an ErrorNotification.
• An error log entry is created.
• The Cleverbridge platform makes up to five attempts to generate or obtain the key (after 1-2-4-8-16 hours). After each unsuccessful attempt, an ErrorNotification is sent and an error log entry created.
• If the fifth attempt to generate or obtain the key fails, our Customer Support will investigate the error (unless Client handles errors is activated).

Cleverbridge delivers full version by download

Cleverbridge delivers the full version of the software to the customer by download.

The following options are available:

Option	Description
Download file	Select a file that customers download through a link. To upload a new file, click the button and select a file on your computer. The new file displays in the drop-down list for selection.
Link validity in days	Select the number of days for which the download link is valid.
Description	Enter descriptive information that displays with the download link on the confirmation page and confirmation email.
Only show download when customer orders in this language	Select the checkbox to restrict the download to a specific language in which the customer orders.
Language	Select the language for which to restrict the download.

Client delivers

You deliver the full version of the product to the customer by download.

Client delivers license key

You deliver the license key to the customer.

Key Template

The Key Template option inserts custom license key information, such as customer name, product name, license key number, and so on, for the customer on the confirmation page. If you don't enter any custom text in this field, default key template text displays on the confirmation page as follows:

If you don't want the default key template text to display on the confirmation page, and you don't want to enter custom text, you can enter only the Key placeholder in this field. In this case, if you use a key list, only the license key itself displays, and if you use a key generator, neither the default text nor a license key displays.

The following dynamic placeholders are available to insert customer information:

Email Key Template

The Email Key Template option is used to define a key template only when there should be a version of the key template for the email confirmation that differs from the key template for the confirmation page.

In cases where the key template should be the same for both the confirmation page and the email confirmation, then leave this field blank. The key template from the Key template field will be used for both.

Additional Delivery Note

The Additional Delivery Note option inserts additional delivery information for the customer on the confirmation page. The following dynamic placeholders are available to insert customer information:

Information on Extra Page

The Information on Extra Page option is used when the installation instructions or other product information are too long to fit on the confirmation page. This creates a button on the confirmation page that the customer clicks to open the instructions in a separate window.

To edit a product, do the following:

1. Open the Products & Plans dashboard.
2. Search for the product that you want to edit.
3. Click the ID of the product that you want to edit or click the ... button to the right of the product and click Edit in the menu.
4. Edit the information in the product wizard.
5. Click Next until you arrive in the Delivery section.
6. Click Save and complete.

To delete a product, do the following:

1. Open the Products & Plans dashboard.
2. Search for the product that you want to delete in the All Products table.
3. Click the ... button to the right of the product. A menu opens.
4. Click Delete in the menu. A confirmation dialog box appears asking you if you are sure you want to delete the product.
5. Click OK.

To view a read-only version of a product's details, do the following:

1. Open the Products & Plans dashboard.
2. Search for the product that you want to view.
3. Click the ... button to the right of the product. A menu opens.
4. Click View Details in the menu. A read-only window with the product's details opens.

1. In the Select base product (optional) drop-down list, select a base product. A message displays asking whether or not you would like to inherit information from the base product.
2. In the pop-up message, select whether or not to inherit base product information.
   1. Yes — Select to have the base product information automatically populate all applicable, empty fields.
   2. No — Select to keep the child product's empty fields empty.

The product becomes a child product, and the fields that allow inheritance become blue. If a field has information from the base product, that information displays.

If information has been inherited from a base product, a circled B displays to the right of the inherited fields.

To override base product information and enter custom information, do the following:

1. Enter new information in the field which contains the information inherited from the base product.
2. Click Save and complete.

To add plain text or HTML that appears within a pop-up in the cart, do the following:

1. If you already have the product information formatted, then copy and paste the text into the Product Information in Cart (as Pop-Up) text editor field.

   or

   Enter plain text or HTML directly into the text editor field.

2. To add a reference to an image, use the following HTML, and include your client account ID and the image name: <img src=mycontent/client account ID/image name>.

   Note

   If you'd like to add a reference to an image, the image must first be uploaded to Web Files in the Commerce Assistant. For more information, see Web Files ✱.

A base product passes data from a parent product to a child product. Inheriting information from a base product saves you time because you won’t have to enter the same information repeatedly.

Base products give you a way to manage multiple products with similar characteristics. They minimize catalog maintenance and provide data consistency.

For information on how to configure a base product, go to Add a Product > Note.

Base Product Rules

The following rules apply to base products:

• Base product information only populates empty fields in the child product. If you already have information in a field, it won't be overridden by the base product information.
• Name information and pricing information can't be used with base products. This information must be unique in the child product.
• Base product information can be overridden in a child product by clicking the circled B to the right of the applicable field, and entering new information.
• If a field in the child product has overridden base product information (there is a reload symbol), clicking the reload symbol returns the field to the current base product information.
• Changes made to a base product are automatically inherited by its child products. This means you make a change once and that change also applies to all child products.
• Changes made to a child product won't affect the base product itself or other child products that are also inheriting information from the base product.
• An existing product can be converted to a child product by selecting a base product in the Select base product (optional) field in the Product & Plans section of the Subscription Commerce Manager.

Internal product information serves as cross-references to your existing product data. If you have existing definitions for a product, entering that information in the Product & Pricing section in the Subscription Commerce Manager is a best practice for maintaining data cohesion with the Cleverbridge platform.

Internal product information is comprised of three parts:

• Internal ID
• Internal product name
• Internal category

Use Cases

Here are some scenarios showing how using internal product information is helpful:

• If you've used an in-house ecommerce solution before using Cleverbridge, you can use internal product information so that it's easy for you to recognize your products.
• If you use other ecommerce resellers in addition to Cleverbridge, each uses its own product ID. This means each of your products would have multiple IDs. If you use internal product IDs, you can keep track of your products by the ID you easily recognize.
• If you are offering a product selection in the checkout process, you can submit the internal product ID to trigger the pre-selection of a particular option. For example, imagine that you are offering the following subscription options for a product - 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years. You can submit your internal product ID for the 1-year subscription product so that it is pre-selected for the customer. To trigger a pre-selection using the internal ID for a specific option in a selection, use the following parameter &cart=S<selection ID>:I<internal product ID> (e.g. &cart=S42149:I543).

Using the Internal Product ID

If you would like to use your internal product ID in the order process, you can submit the internal ID as a parameter with the number prefixed by the capital letter I.

Your customers can view content in various languages. The display language on the checkout pages is automatically selected based on customer default browser language. Customers can select a different language on the checkout pages with the Language drop-down list.

You can use Language-supported fields in the Commerce Assistant and Manage Languages in the Subscription Commerce Manager to specify various languages for your:

• Products
• Catalogs
• Confirmation pages and emails
• Customer support contact information

By using language-supported fields, you localize the checkout process for customers. the Cleverbridge checkout process is available in several languages. To enhance the customer experience, it's important that your information is also localized so that it will match the checkout language.

How it Works

You can use the language bar to localize content. When you select a language, language-supported fields display the content for that language.

You can price your products with two methods, as floating or fixed prices.

Floating Method

With the floating method, you set a base currency (such as Euro) and a price for that base currency (such as 20€). If the product is purchased in currencies other than the base currency, the price is converted based on the current exchange rate. The price in other currencies may change daily based on the exchange rate. You, however, will always receive the same amount of money for the product regardless of what the currency and exchange rate is.

Considerations

• Regardless of the currency, all prices are equal relative to the base currency.
• Revenue remains stable.
• Prices may not be marketing friendly.
• If customers pay in a currency other than the base currency, the price is converted.

Fixed Method

With the fixed method, you set a base currency (such as Euro), a price for that base currency (such as 20€), and also unique prices for one or more additional currencies. No matter what the exchange rate is relative to the base currency, the price in the other currencies does not change. Currencies without a fixed price will be priced according to the floating method.

Considerations

• Prices are more marketing friendly.
• Revenue fluctuates based on exchange rate.
• By using price configurations to specify who can use a particular product price based on language and location, you can market to price points in specific regions.

Best Practice: Use Base Products

A powerful way to manage multiple products with similar characteristics is to use base products. Base products minimize catalog maintenance and provide data consistency.

A base product contains data that is passed down to its child products. Changes made to a base product are automatically inherited by its child products. This means you make a change once and that change also applies to all child products.

Example

Shieldware, Inc., sells anti-virus software for personal and professional use. Their product Internet Security is sold in four versions:

• Basic
• Basic Extended
• Professional
• Enterprise

The four versions have similar characteristics and information, with slight variations. A base product called Internet Security is set up with the basic information that applies to all four versions of the product. The four child products inherit this information from the base product.

Best Practice: Use One Product for Multiple Languages

It’s possible that you have products that you want to provide descriptions for in multiple languages. Previously, you might have set up that product by entering it once for each language, such as:

In the Subscription Commerce Manager, however, a single product ID can support multiple languages. You can keep your catalog short and easy to maintain. Enter your product once and then configure as many of the cleverbridge-supported languages you need for that one product.

On the Selections dashboard, you can find the following:

Add Plan Selection button

You can use the Add Plan Selection button to add a plan selection. For more information, see Add a Plan Selection.

Plan Selection table

The Plan Selection table displays all the plan selections added by the account users. The following fields are available:

You can use the Plan Selection section to increase your average order value by letting your customers pick the subscription plan that best fits their needs in the shopping cart.

To add a plan selection to your shopping cart, do the following:

1. Open the Products > Selections section in the main menu of the Subscription Commerce Manager.
2. Click the Add Plan Selection button and complete the relevant information in the following sections:



General

Name

Enter a unique name for the plan selection.

Plan Characteristics Selector

Select up to three different billing options for one subscription product. Three options are available to you, each described in detail in the dropdowns below:

• To choose an existing characteristic, click Select Duration Characteristic.
• To create a new one, click Add New.
• Use available templates.

A product variation is a way for customers to choose between different options for a product in the cart, such as version, language, or license period.

For more information, see Add a Variation.

The Variations table provides an overview of all product variations that have been set up for your account. The following fields are available:

Use the General section to assign products to product characteristics and to configure how product variations display in the cart.

General

Enter information in the following fields:

Name

Enter an internal name of the product variation, for use within the Subscription Commerce Manager.

Position

The position determines where the product variation is displayed in the cart. Select from the following options:

• Product column — Product variation is displayed below the product, in the Product Name column in the cart when the Use product names option is not selected, or replaces the product in the cart when the Use product names option is selected. For an example, see Use Product Names under Apply a Product Selection.
• Separate column — Product variation is displayed in a new column in the cart.
• Hidden — Product variation is not displayed in the cart.

Product Characteristics Selection

The Product Characteristics Selection section is used to select or add a product characteristic for a product variation.

Select a Product Characteristic

1. Click the Select Characteristic button.
2. Select one or more product characteristics for use in this product variation.
3. Click OK.

In the Preview section to the right, you can see the selected product characteristic as it will display in the checkout process or shopping cart.

Example of Multiple Characteristics

The following is an example of two product characteristics that have been selected for the product variation. The Version in Cart characteristic is the top one in the hierarchy. The Number of Years characteristic depends on Version in Cart, so that customers first select the version of the product, and then the number of years for that version.

Add a Product Characteristic

1. Click the Add Characteristic button.
2. Enter an internal name of the product characteristic, for use within the Subscription Commerce Manager.
3. In the Control type field, select whether the product characteristic options should display as a drop-down list or as radio buttons in the cart.
4. In the Characteristic Display Text field, select a text element to display as the header in the checkout process or shopping cart when the product variation is a separate column.
5. Optionally, if you want to add a new text element click + Add Display Text at the bottom of the drop-down list.

   Important

   Beware that whenever you input a display text that has not been added before, you have to actively click on "Add Display Text", or else it will not be saved and you have to input it again.

6. Add options to the product characteristic. For more information, see Add Options to a Characteristic.
7. Click Submit.

Add Options to a Characteristic

1. Click the Add Characteristic button.
2. In the Option Name field, enter an internal name for the option.
3. In the Option Display Text field, select a text element to display for the option in the cart.
4. Optionally, if you want to add a new text element click + Add Display Text at the bottom of the drop-down list.
5. Repeat these steps to add as many options as needed.
6. Order the options by dragging and dropping them. This determines the order in which they display in the cart.
7. Click Save.

Add Options to a Characteristic

1. Click the Add Characteristic button.
2. In the Option Name field, enter an internal name for the option.
3. In the Option Display Text field, select a text element to display for the option in the cart.
4. Optionally, if you want to add a new text element click + Add Display Text at the bottom of the drop-down list.
5. Repeat these steps to add as many options as needed.
6. Order the options by dragging and dropping them. This determines the order in which they display in the cart.
7. Click Save.

Products Selection

Every product characteristic option in the hierarchy must have one product assigned to it.

Assign Products to Product Characteristic Options

1. In the product characteristics hierarchy on the left, click the Assign Product button next to a product characteristic option.
2. Select a product and click OK
3. Optionally, to override the default text element that was selected for this product characteristic option, click the Edit icon next the product characteristic option and select a text element.
4. Repeat these steps for the remaining product characteristic options in the hierarchy.

Use product names

If Product column is selected, this option is available for selection. This setting overrides the text elements that were selected for the product variation and displays the names of the product assigned to the product characteristic.

Example

In the following cart, Use product names has not been selected. The product variation displays below the product, with the text elements that were selected for the product variation.

In the following cart, Use product names has been selected. The product names override the text elements, and the product variation replaces the product in the cart.

Use the Catalog Settings section to enter information relevant for when this product variation is used in a catalog. The following settings are available:

Name

The following options are available for the Name section:

Display Name

The Display name displays to customers in the shopping cart, confirmation page, email messages, and so on. This field doesn’t support HTML.

Additional Name Information

Use the Additional name information option to provide a short, clear, and detailed product description about the essential features of the product. This description displays as an additional line below the product in the shopping cart, review page, confirmation page, email messages, and so on. This field doesn't support HTML.

Essential Features Description

Due to legal requirements for Cleverbridge as an online reseller, an essential features description must be displayed to customers immediately before the customer makes the purchase. Customers must be given a short, clear, and detailed description of the product so they are able to make an informed purchase decision.

This means the customer must be able to generally understand how the product works. If the product's name is already descriptive, then no further action is required. If, however, the functionality of the product is unclear from the product name itself, then the Additional name information field should be used for the essential features description.

URL and Meta Information

The following options are available for the URL and Meta Information section:

Create SEO URL

Enter keywords to be appended to every URL generated for its category in the catalog. Separate keywords by dashes or periods and do not enter white space in this field.

Example

Examples of keywords are antivirus, security, and removecookie.

The URL would look like this:

https://www.shieldwareexamplecompany.com/123/catalog/categoryname.antivirusfromshieldware/antivirus.security

Meta Title

Search engines use this text in their results listings. It also determines how search engines rank your catalog’s web page in the results listings. The title displays at the very top of the web browser when your catalog is viewed, and when your catalog is bookmarked, this is the name that is saved in the bookmark list.

Meta Keywords

Provides text for crawler-based search engines to index and rank meta keywords. Keywords are not seen by customers, because they exist in the header area of the catalog’s web page. You can also enter parameters in this field to control which character set the web browser uses.

Note

Not all crawler-based search engines use keywords, and the text found in the body of your catalog’s web page is the most important factor for determining ranking.

Meta Description

Text that displays in a search engine’s results list under the title, guiding users’ search behavior.

Images

Insert product images for the product selection.

Catalog Descriptions (Optional)

Use the Catalog Descriptions section to enter descriptions that display for the product variation in the catalog.

A product list is a list of products you select and categorize for a particular purpose such as:

• Affiliate An individual or a company that markets a product to potential customers. The Affiliate receives a commission on a specific action (also called event: e.g., sale, lead, click, visit etc.) previously agreed upon with you, the advertiser. Each action is tracked via a unique tracking link from Partnerize.​ ​An affiliate is also called a publisher. commissions — Setting a commission for a specific group of products for an affiliate
• Product type — A list of all your security products

The Product Lists table displays all the price configurations created by the account users. The following fields are available in the Product Lists table:
