Add billing plan selections
Offering customers a possibility to choose between different product billing plans can help you increase your average order value (AOV) and overall revenue. Product plans give your customers the option to commit to a discounted longer-running subscription.
The following is a business case example of setting up multiple billing plans for a product in a shopping cart:
Shieldware, Inc., a provider of personal anti-virus software, aims to increase their AOV by offering three subscription plans for their Internet Security product:
- 1-year subscription at $119.56
- 2-year subscription at $215.20
- 3-year subscription at $286.94 Longer subscription periods are offered at a discounted rate, making them more cost-effective. Customers can choose the plan that best suits their needs.
To set up multiple billing plans for a product, use our Plan Selection Menus feature available in Configure > Selection Menus in our web admin tool.
Plan Selection Menus provides a pick list that helps customers choose the most beneficial subscription option, significantly reducing the risk of churn by ensuring they receive the best value for their purchase.
In the following example, the customer chooses the 3-year subscription with the highest discount, rather than the more expensive 1-year option or the discounted 2-year subscription.
Add a plan selection menu
To add a Plan Selection Menu to your shopping cart, do the following:
- Go to Configure > Selection Menus in our web admin tool.
- Click the Add Plan Selection Menu button.
- Fill in the relevant information in the following sections
- Click Save and Close.
General
Name: Enter a unique name for the Plan Selection Menu.
Plan Characteristics Selection
Select up to three different billing options for one subscription product.
Use this option if you want to choose an existing characteristic.
- Select the Characteristic ID and click OK.
- Assign the subscription product IDs to each billing option. Click Assign Product and choose the product you wish to include in Plan Selection Menu.
Use this option if you want to create a new characteristic.
General Setup
- Internal Characteristic Name: Enter a unique name for the characteristic.
- Select Plan Selection Menu Header: Enter a header for Plan Selection Menu.
Options
- Select Plan Option Header: Select an existing header or add a new one for the billing options and click Submit. Once submitted, in the Plan Characteristics Selection, click Assign Product and choose the product you wish to include in Plan Selection Menu.
Use this option if you want to create Plan Selection Menu based on an existing template.
- Under General, enter a unique name for the characteristic.
- From the Templates list, choose one of the Plan Selection Menus.
- Click Apply to select a template or Edit to adapt the template to your needs before submitting.
- Click Assign Product and choose the product you wish to include in Plan Selection Menu.
