Plan Selection Menus
Use Plan Selection Menus to let customers choose between different billing plans or subscription durations in the cart.
Offering multiple billing plans can help customers choose the subscription option that best matches their needs and can support longer subscription commitments.
Shieldware, Inc., a provider of personal anti-virus software, wants to offer three subscription plans for its Internet Security product:
- 1-year subscription at $119.56
- 2-year subscription at $215.20
- 3-year subscription at $286.94
Longer subscription periods are offered at a discounted rate, making them more cost-effective. Customers can choose the plan that best suits their needs.
In the following example, the customer chooses the 3-year subscription with the highest discount.

Add a Plan Selection Menu
To add a Plan Selection Menu:

Go to Configure > Selection Menus in SCM.

Click Add Plan Selection Menu.

Enter a unique Name for the Plan Selection Menu.

In Plan Characteristics Selection, set up the billing options that customers can choose from.

Assign the subscription product IDs to the billing options.

Click Save and Close.
Plan characteristics selection
A characteristic is the option group that customers choose from in the cart. For Plan Selection Menus, the characteristic usually represents subscription duration, billing plan, or another billing-related option.
In Plan Characteristics Selection, you can select up to three different billing options for one subscription product.
You can set up the billing options in one of the following ways:

| Select Duration Characteristic | Use an existing duration characteristic. |
| Add New | Create a new characteristic and define new billing options. |
| Use Template | Create the Plan Selection Menu from an existing template. |
Select an existing duration characteristic
Use this option when the duration characteristic already exists.

Select the Characteristic ID and click OK.

Assign the subscription product IDs to each billing option. Click Assign Product and choose the product you want to include in the Plan Selection Menu.

The assigned product determines which subscription product is added to the cart when the customer selects that option.
Add a new characteristic
Use this option when you need to create a new characteristic and define new billing options for the selection menu.

Enter an Internal Characteristic Name.

Enter or select the Plan Selection Menu Header.

Enter or select the Plan Option Header, then click Submit.
The menu header and option header are display texts. They control what customers see in the cart.

In Plan Characteristics Selection, click Assign Product and choose the product you want to include in the Plan Selection Menu.
Use a template
Use this option when you want to create a Plan Selection Menu based on an existing setup. You can apply a template as-is or edit it before submitting.

Under General, enter a unique name for the characteristic.

From the Templates list, choose one of the Plan Selection Menus.

Click Apply to select a template, or click Edit to adapt the template before submitting.

Click Assign Product and choose the product you want to include in the Plan Selection Menu.
