Offer ACH Credit payments

Overview

ACH Credit is a customer-initiated bank transfer over the US Automated Clearing House network. The customer instructs their bank to push the funds using the payment details provided by Cleverbridge. This differs from an ACH Debit, where the payee initiates a pull from an authorized account.

This page explains ACH Credit from the client's perspective. You can share the Pay by ACH Credit guide with customers who need help completing the transfer.

Why offer ACH Credit?

ACH Credit gives US customers a bank-account payment option that they control through their own bank. It can be useful for customers whose purchasing process favors an account-to-account transfer over a card payment.

Order flow

ACH Credit payment flow
  1. The customer selects ACH Credit and confirms the order.
  2. Cleverbridge provides the bank details and payment instructions.
  3. The customer instructs their bank to send the funds.
  4. Cleverbridge receives and matches the transfer to the order.
  5. After confirmation, Cleverbridge sends the delivery details.

Processing and matching

ACH Credit is not an instant checkout confirmation. The customer's bank first accepts the instruction, the ACH network processes the credit, and Cleverbridge then receives and matches the funds. Customers should enter the payment reference exactly as displayed and keep the bank confirmation until the order is complete.
