Pay by SEPA Direct Debit
Overview
SEPA Direct Debit lets you authorize Cleverbridge to collect a euro payment from your bank account. A single mandate covers one payment; a recurring mandate can cover future subscription charges.
Pay for a purchase
- On the Cleverbridge checkout, select SEPA Direct Debit.
- Enter your IBAN and the requested personal details.
- Review and authorize the mandate.
- Confirm the order.
- Cleverbridge displays the order confirmation and delivery details. The debit and final bank processing can occur later.
Pay for a subscription renewal
For an automatically renewing subscription, the recurring mandate authorizes Cleverbridge to debit the renewal amount on the due date. If your bank details change, use a Cleverbridge Change Payment Link before the renewal date.
For a manual renewal, Cleverbridge sends a reminder before the renewal date. When you confirm the renewal, you authorize a single mandate for the amount due.
If a debit is returned
A debit can be returned because the payment details are incorrect, the account has insufficient funds, the bank does not permit the debit, the mandate was canceled, or the debit was disputed. Cleverbridge then emails you with instructions for paying the outstanding amount or changing the payment method.
The European Central Bank explains that SEPA Direct Debit is initiated by the payee after the payer gives consent through a mandate. It also describes an unconditional eight-week refund right for euro direct debits and a longer period for an unauthorized collection. See the ECB overview of SEPA and ECB payment-protection guidance. Contact your bank for the rules that apply to your account and transaction.
